DRDGOLD set out to engage with their host communities to work towards leaving poverty and hopelessness behind. By implementing Umsizi-STI’s Broad-Based Livelihoods programme, they have far exceeded their own ambitious expectations. Aiming for the upliftment of 250 households, they have actually reached over 3000 of the poorest households across their region of operation.
Success stories from participants in Harmony Gold’s Broad-Based Livelihoods Programme. The BBL is Umsizi-STI’s flagship socio-economic development programme. It was rolled out in Harmony’s host communities and has had a fantastic and expansive uptake among residents.
Umsizi has partnered with DRDGOLD and Impophomo Rushing Waters to provide over 1000 food parcels to households affected by the current socio-economic crisis.
Schoeman’s Boerdery has undertaken a Broad-Based Livelihoods development programme with Umsizi-STI as its implementations partner. The result has been wildfire development, with over 1000 households economically empowered.
Vunene Mine continued to implement the successful Broad-Based Livelihoods (BBL) programme as part of their Social and Labour Plan commitment. The BBL programme assists people living in poverty to increase their household GDP.
